Two incumbent city council members and a newcomer were elected in Milton during Tuesday’s municipal elections.

Joe Longoria defeated District 5 incumbent Tina D’Aversa with 60.73 percent of the vote.

Longoria said his campaign was about embracing all that is good in Milton.

“I am firmly committed to representing all of Milton, and not just those with whom I share common ground,” he said. “I am excited to be part of the city council, and I look forward to the important work ahead.”

In regards to defeating an incumbent, Longoria said he believes the citizens of Milton are ready for something new.

“Incumbents win elections 90 percent of the time,” he said. “Milton is looking for leadership that is more inclusive and cooperative.”

Longoria had 2,018 votes, while Ms. D’Aversa had 1,298.

In District 1, Karen Thurman took 60.98 percent of the vote with a total of 2,016 votes. Her opponent, Bernard Wolff, had 1,283 votes.

Incumbent Bill Lusk won in District 3 with 70.17 percent of the vote. Write-in candidates gained 29.83 percent of the vote.

One write-in candidate was Al Trevillyan. Lusk said he never took the race for granted, even though he did not think Trevillyan stood a chance of winning,.

“That didn’t give me reason not to run hard like I always do,” he said. “I ran it as I would any race.”

Lusk said he is thankful for the residents who came to the polls to support him.

Mayor Joe Lockwood breezed to an unopposed victory.

Milton had a voter turnout of 19.44 percent, as 3,355 out of 17,258 registered voters cast ballots.
